Who is Michelle Yan? Born in ChengDu SiChuan China, Michelle grew up in a small village outside X’ian with her grandparents. From a very young age, she has vivid memories of helping her artisan uncles create unique artefacts with strong Chinese historical themes, such as lanterns, vintage tables, wardrobes and pencil boxes.
As a young girl, she would observe and be fascinated by the village women gathered whilst they hand crafted various traditional clothes, shoes and bed linens from ancient weaves – all made from the cotton from their own fields. These beautiful and creatively inspiring scenes influenced Michelle to pursue her desires in design and her wish to ensure her historical family heritage would continue.
Since the Nineties, Michelle Yan has travelled and lived in various European countries. Her designs are heavily influenced by her time spent living in Rome, Paris, Hamburg and England. She has also retained her love and respect for her Chinese culture, which is often shown throughout her creative style.
She encompasses all aspects of floral style and beauty to inspire others. Each of her designs has originated from her love and respect for her culture and travels. It is Michelle’s wish that you follow on this creative journey.
